Many Paths

Image: Giphy

Her soul journey had been long

Many paths had left their mark

The Sacred, liminal & the arcane

Through the Light and the Dark

She had met both right & wrong

But refused to greet the profane…

Beautiful Soul

Thinking of some beautiful souls I know…

D0Z7qSbX4AAMHnb.jpg

You bring a gift to the Earth

The song of your eternal soul

Sings magic words of power

Beauty’s cleansing shower

Washing away pain & debris

Torn psyches healed & whole

Spirits soar freed from captivity

Dancing in the Light of rebirth

Driftwood

abab
‘By Power of the Night
And bright Moon Light
On shifting sands of time
Let my True Love be mine!’
From his lonely shore he did not hear the siren’s’ plea.
Her words returned…
Driftwood, on the ebb-tide of the sea.

Wisdom of the Fae

Wandering in the woods today,

I heard the wisdom of the Fae,

“Beware the games people play!”

How true, the untruths people say!

Tinkling laughter, so bright & gay.

Smiling,  I went merrily on my way.

Aedh Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven

I  have a deep love for Yeats sublime poem “Aedh Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven” from his collection “The Wind Among The Reeds” (published in 1988) as well as for the Pre-Raphaelites and  these lush paintings by Edward Robert Hughes are just perfect…

Edward Robert Hughes ~ “Night With Her Train Of Stars”

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

The Young Man’s Song

I adore this line from “The Young Man’s Song” from “Responsibilities” (1916), which is your favourite Yeats?

“For he would be thinking of love

Till the stars had run away

And the shadows eaten the moon.”

Image: Edmund Dulac

I whispered, “I am too young,”
And then, “I am old enough”;
Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
“Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair,”
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.

Oh, love is the crooked thing,
There is nobody wise enough
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love
Till the stars had run away,
And the shadows eaten the moon.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
One cannot begin it too soon.

The Song of Wandering Aengus

I have a passion for poetry, I’d like to share some of my favourite works for you to enjoy, I’d love to hear your favourites too!

Dlro5iXWwAAhd-G
Image:Arthur Rackam’s “Freia”

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.
When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire a-flame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And someone called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.
Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done,
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

Strange Love

When the pain became too much to bear,

He banished her to the dark recesses of his mind.

By being viciously unkind he could pretend to himself he didn’t care.

But she knew, and let him be, for such was their strange love.

The Summoning

Image by Brigitte Werner from Pixabay

The Lady beckons to you beguilingly. Obsidian eyes, flashing danger and delight. Her smile, enigmatic, promising delicious secrets to be shared. Tresses of sun kissed silken strands of gold, a river flowing down her innocent back. Mixed messages carried on an air of danger. Fascinated, intrigued you draw near.

She is an enigmatic paradox, formed from Light and Dark. Blessed by sunlight’s golden rays and kissed by the midnight hour, black magick and the devil’s claw. Heavenly Angel, hellfire Demon. Was her Soul star born in the fiery firmaments above or forged somewhere north of Midnight?

Her essence envelopes you. She is not physically there, yet she is everywhere. On your skin, in your mind, you feel her Presence. Bringing both delights and torments. You love her. You hate her. Want her and need her, repulsed at meeting the devil within fearing possession you push her away.

Is she a Succubus, or a figment of fragmented wanton lust rampaging through the caverns of your ravaged mind? Or is she a witch, adept at the Dark Arts and  enchantment has placed you under her eternal spell? ✨

The Precipice

Beautiful image: Pixabay.com

The precipice, a perilous place, far beyond the safe confines of the city walls and the hinterlands of right and wrong.

Inexorably pulled to the edge of decision, Chase stood hypnotised by angry crashing waves, pounding heart beats upon a lonely shore.

Far out to sea, he heard her call. Siren. Temptress. One leap forward into the unknown, falling, tumbling into her dark depths and he would be free to ride upon passion’s tumultuous waves.

Or one step back from the beckoning, beguiling edge of danger…one step back into the barren wastelands of his life.

Sky Clad Skin

Firm upon the rich dark earth I do stand,

My seeking arms reaching up to touch dove grey skies.

Softly, slowly raindrops fall and still I call.

Dancing, chanting, singing, weaving until

A sheet of rain falls down upon my silken sky clad skin.

With a singing heart, this child of Gaia smiles,

Showered by love and blessings  from above

Knowing she has summoned, you…

Her one true love.

Hellfire

Beguiled by my burning flame

Little moth, play your game

Beware what you seek from me

My fire burns with the intensity

To destroy you and your desire

For I am forged from hell fire.

Rose from a Lover

My true love gave to me a rose.

Intoxicated by the sweetness of its scent

I did not feel the thorns ripping my flesh,

Until my soul fled…

Leaving my wounded heart to bleed.

IN TOO DEEP

Image by Foundry Co from Pixabay

Laying down his head to sleep

Knew he was in far too deep

He met her on the field of dreams

Where nothing is as it truly seems

Infatuation, love, lust and insanity

Was she for real or just a fantasy

Day tried to steal night’s magic away

She danced in his mind, work and play

Waiting for the witching Midnight hour

To cast the spell of love’s magic power

Scattered Seeds

The girl you once knew, oh so very long ago

Comes unbidden, dancing into your thoughts

Laughing and playing as if it were yesterday

Fragrant fragments of moments caught in time.

Do you recall the innocent sweetness of it all…

And hear distant whispers of a long forgotten Love

Where did the magic go? What could have been?

Questions without answers destined to always be

Nothing more than scattered seeds, dandelion dreams

Carried across the lonely landscape of your mind.

Fire & Ice

She was the fire and ice of diamonds, the red and gold dance of passion’s flame.

Sending him Solar flares, enticing him to unlock her many secrets and damping his ardour with sheet rain when he came too close.

Would he ever find the key that lay hidden somewhere beneath the arctic glaciers guarding her fragile heart?

She was a complicated paradox.

…and he loved her for it…

The Wisdom Of The Trees

I am delighted to welcome a super guest to Edendene Books and share with you all this beautiful poem on the beauty and magic of nature by my Texan Twitter friend Just~Randy😎 @jafah2012

Each day as I walk

I hear the trees and their talk

I listen to their stories

And marvel at their glories

For they’ve weathered each storm and greeted every moon

And yet they still stand tall full in bloom

Sometimes they whisper

Others they stand still

But they never steer me wrong

And my walks seem less long..

Moonbeam

Image:Pixabay

As the moon pulls the tides of the seas and the oceans, do you feel me, my love, coming to you as warm waves washing upon the shores of your dreams?

I bring to you unspoken driftwood gifts of love, trust and eternal devotion for you to find upon the shifting sands of your lonely shore.

Do you feel the essence of me, playing softly on your skin, dancing and delighting in you, my touch silken as a soft moonbeam.

And in your waking hours will you remember fragments of a fragrant dream, where we danced on water beneath a Lovers moon?

Bittersweet Symphony

Knowing you did me wrong

I penned the lyrics to a song

Oh the sweetest agony

Of your truth and lies

Behind innocent eyes

You played me hot

You played me cold

Who would you choose

Could I bear to lose?

Was it her? Was it me?

Was I your Queen

Was she your scene?

What are you to me?

A bittersweet symphony.

On The Wings Of The Wind

Deep in the dark caverns of your mind

Thoughts threatening to capsize you

A small boat without safe harbour

Lost upon a vengeful and merciless sea …

My heart has heard your cries of pain

Felt the heavy burden of unspoken words

Weighing you down with secrets untold

Brought to me on the wings of the wind…

And as a Lighthouse in the darkness

Allow me cast Hope upon your despair

Come find your way back home to me

For just one moment in time, stand still…

We shall drink in the sweetness of life

Smile at bees and wild flowers dancing

Walk  through tall meadow grass

Listening to love whisper in the trees…

For the magic of nature feels

The yearning of your heart

And I, your Soul friend, reach out

And silently say “I know…”

Come to me, my own True Love

I will show you wonders above

Behold! Diamonds of Celestial Light

Cast upon a blanket of darkest night

A story of Love begins to unfold

An ancient tale once more told

For you and I, my Own True Love

Are written in the stars above❤

Wine of Desire

1835_Ary_Scheffer_-_The_Ghosts_of_Paolo_and_Francesca_Appear_to_Dante_and_Virgil
1985-Ary Sceffer The Ghosts of Paolo and Francesca appear to Dante & Virgil

By the light of a fire burning bright

The Lady sought love in the night

Desire ignited within her dark eyes

She went to him with innocent guise

In his chamber her Lord did wait

With his black heart full of hate

After Hearts and bodies did entwine

He gave her a goblet of ruby wine

The venom brought her to the floor

He told his wife he loved her no more

It was another who set him aflame

He was callous and without shame

As the poisoned wine her life did take

A final promise she did make

Beyond the grave, his cruel crime

He would rue until the end of time

Magic power of a wishing flower

PUFFBALL
From a field in Glastonbury

Sweet Dandelion
Do you wait patiently for me
To come along and set you free
I’ve heard plenty an aged tale told
Of the magic a Dandelion holds.
Is that so little wishing flower?
Do you have such magic power?

I bid of thee, fly free, Blessed Be.
Bring my heart’s desire back to me!
Scatter through the fields and trees
Soft starburst on the gentle breeze
Treasured seed falls to Mother Earth
Within each one the promise of rebirth

…And so the dance of life goes on…

Lily Flame

William-Adolphe Bouguereau ~ La Nuit (1883)

Lady Lily Flame

My Lady,  My Love, My Lily Flame

Do you wear a sullied cloak of shame

Has purity and innocence taken flight

To the beguiling dark embrace of Night

Nyx and Erebus, alluring, starless charms

Mists enticing you into seductive arms

My Lady, My Love, My Lily Flame

Guileless innocence, without blame

Deny the Ferryman his Stygian fee

From Thanatos tenebrous domain flee

By  flames of Winter burning bright

Take safe passage through the  night

My Lady, My Love, My Lily Flame

Capricious gods may play Night’s game

Gates of the rising sun light the way

To sanctuary of Hemera’s breaking day

Purified by the kiss of the  Morning Dew

Absolution and Benediction fall on you
